February 2022 - A Fire broke out at Carnival City Hotel and Casino on 5 February 2022
Carnival City Casino and Hotel has made the news. This East Rand Hotel, which is generally a fun and colourful scene, was transformed by grey billowing smoke and fiery flames on Saturday evening, the 5th Feb 2022.
The patrons and staff at the hotel were immediately evacuated when fibreglass material from the central entrance atrium caught alight, which they suspected was caused by an electrical short circuit, confirmed that the fire was not a deliberate or malicious act.
The Brakpan and Benoni Central fire station and Tsakane Fire Station attended the scene and immediately started fire suppression. Once the flames got extinguished, damping down was conducted, and the hotel was again declared safe. The good news is there were no casualties to report as everybody got evacuated as the firefighters began fighting the flames. The fire was extinguished within 15 mins and did not spread to the interior of the building
The fire at Carnival City is another statistic in the number of fires South Africa has seen recently. The first one was the massive fire at Parliament when the old and new Assembly buildings caught alight, followed by the fire at the Waterkloof Air Force Base and a few days later the Komani Town Hall in Queenstown and now Carnival City.
It seems all is good on the Carnival City Horizon, with the scene declared safe for the reeling fun to begin at this Sun International land-based casino offering their patrons 2000+ slots and 57 table games plus a whole lot of Carnival Fun.
